I-Guazú. The Legend of the Eternal Cry
Version by Aníbal Cambas

This renowned legend of Misiones tells that, on ancient days of the past, the lands situated between the Alto Paraná and Uruguay rivers were the scenery of bloody fights between two tribes belonging to the Guaraní race.

Although all the inhabitants of that place obtained plentiful resources from the forest and the wide rivers of the region, such activities created disputes among the tribes. As a result of them, a war broke out among the tribes that lived in the forest situated in the northeastern part of the Iberá Lake.

Bandoneon: the very soul of tango

The Argentinian bandoneon is a two voice instrument (each note being doubled at the superior octave) with 71 buttons. It produces sounds when air, supplied by a bellows, flows past reeds.

The root of its name, accord, means ‘chord’ in Latin-based languages. While superficially similar to other squeezeboxes, the bandoneon is not an accordion. On the bandoneon, each button produces two different notes, depending upon whether one is opening or closing the bellows. For this reason, it can be a devilishly difficult instrument to learn.
