La Boca

La Boca is one of the most colourful areas of our city. It was the quarter of Italian immigrants at the early twentieth century, who lodged tenant-houses and conventillos, some of which can be still visited by tourists.

The football club - world famous Boca Junior – is a symbol of this neighbourhood and Diego Maradona’s first love. Pedro de Mendoza Avenue and Vuelta de Rocha with its famous Caminito or Little Lane, an open air street-museum that recreates the typical conventillos of the early La Boca neighbourhood, are visited daily by hundreds of tourists from every nationality. Plenty of shops offer their souvenirs –from mates, tango products to Boca’s yellow and blue banners and flags.

The sounds of a tango are heard in every block and skilful dancers invite you to join them in a nostalgic cadence. Every weekend, tango shows are offered by professional tango dancers and singers.

This mythical stadium rises on Brandsen street when it intersects Del Valle Iberlucea street. It is one of the most popular soccer clubs in the country.

Founded in 1940, it was then popularly called “La Bombonera” (the candy jar). At the entrance hall, people can see and enjoy soccer-related murals painted by Benito Quinquela Martín
